I would be guiding a father-son combo for one moose and then I had one bowhunter for one brown bear. This was my mission for the year.
After help open up the lodge and square away the gear and runway it was time to hunt. My first hunters arrived a day or so before moose season opened. Weather was mild and on day two I called in a respectable bull from 1000 yards out. He came in to 80 yards and my hunter let him have it with a 338 Rem Ultramag shooting swift A-frame's. He piled up just behind the lodge. It was an easy pack out.
We were pinned down with high winds for the first four days of season but we finally made it over the pass to the pacific ocean side of our hunting area.
We put seven different stalks on bear in three days. Jon finally connecting with a nice brown bear at twelve yards. The bear only ran 125 yards and expired. No backup shot needed. He was shooting a Mathews with 200 grain grizzly stick heads. Sixty eight pound draw. It zipped right through it.
We flew out a few days later and I assisted other guides with other hunters around the main base lodge. Flying home late October.
